Hi Guys ,
I am writing a blog after a very long gap.My drive initiated by my joblessness :P.By this time i have been a software engineer for about two years and so you will see a lot of IT jargon. But still I have not changed a lot. This blog is going to be my thoughts and reflections after reading Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged".
When i began reading the book I felt I was moving through another slow beginning and I had made a mistake in picking it up but as the pages turned and the characters were shaping up I was hooked.I used to enjoy the prospect of coming home and starting with the book and in fact When the book ended I felt sad that it was too soon.
This book has made a profound impact on me and my thoughts.I have always believed in the concept of each man to himself and every man has got his right to live according to his will and there is no social responsibility for others. In fact it is true that when one lives for himself and not for others there is true living being done.It is then when his decisions and his values decide what he will become and his destiny. He does not have to depend on others decision and he has no one to blame for his mistakes. But I felt that I am being selfish and being contrary to the norms of the society. Then Rand's book came my way.Now I am strong in my convictions.
The more I read about the characters the more I liked it.rand's central strong feminine character beautifully expressed in Dagny taggart and the values and intelligence through men like Fransisco,Rearden and Galt.Ultimately I have come to understand that what is more important than living rich is to live with your own convictions and values.Cause i believe you really express your values when you have nothing to lose.Rand is an eye opener.people who shared her beliefs but were not willing to express find expression through her characters.People who do not share her point of view are opened up to her line of thought and will ask themselves Why not?
But why is so important to us that we should be liked by all and Man as a whole should contribute to the society and he is chastised if he does not comply? Why is so difficult for us to stand up for our values and enjoy our accomplishment? Is it the fault of our society or of our upbringing or is it the general tendency of Human nature? Why do we tend to expect from others when they do not have a liability to provide for us?
This book has really changed my though process. Now I keep my happiness as priority and try to compete out with the best of the best.It may prove successful or it may not but i am not bothered as my aim is to give it my best.I would recommend this book highly for people who like philosophy and believe in individual capacity and talent.
Maybe this blog may sound like a bundle of controversies or an high handed opinion but this is my train of thoughts through my keyboard, straight from my mind.Do post your comments and let me know your thoughts.
Till we meet next time have a great time and enjoy yourselves. We will meet soon.
